FREDERICTON, New Brunswick — Former Fredericton Police Force Constable Andy Savoy has died, police confirmed on Thursday, only days after criminal charges had been announced against him following an investigation into his work as an officer. His death has prompted expressions of sympathy from former colleagues while bringing an abrupt end to a case that had recently drawn significant public attention.
In a brief statement, the Fredericton Police Force said it had learned “with sadness” of the passing of former Constable Andy Savoy and extended its condolences to his family and friends, noting that many of them had also served alongside him within the organization. Police did not disclose the cause of death or provide additional details, citing respect for his family.
Earlier this week, authorities announced that Savoy had been charged with perjury, uttering forged documents, and breach of trust following an independent investigation conducted by the Miramichi Police Force into files connected to his work as a Fredericton police officer. Investigators alleged the offences occurred between 2023 and January 2026 while he was employed by the force. The allegations had not been tested in court, and Savoy had been scheduled to appear in court on August 28.
The Fredericton Police Force has not indicated whether the pending criminal proceedings will now be formally discontinued, though Savoy’s death effectively ends the prosecution before the allegations could be adjudicated. Officials have not released further information regarding any continuing administrative reviews related to the case.
News of Savoy’s passing has generated a wide range of reactions across New Brunswick. While recent developments surrounding the criminal investigation received significant public attention, many who knew him personally have also reflected on his years in policing and extended their condolences to his family during a difficult time.
At this stage, no official funeral arrangements or memorial service details have been publicly announced by Savoy’s family. The Fredericton Police Force has asked that the family’s privacy be respected as they mourn his passing.
