BUCYRUS, Ohio — The Bucyrus community and patients throughout north-central Ohio are mourning the unexpected passing of Dr. Attila Z. Nagy, DDS, MS, a respected dentist, educator, and co-founder of Oakwood Dental. His death was announced by Oakwood Dental, where he practiced alongside his wife, Dr. Michelle Nagy, for nearly two decades. The practice described his passing as unexpected and asked for privacy as the family grieves this profound loss. At the time of publication, no official cause of death has been publicly disclosed.
For thousands of patients, Dr. Nagy was more than a dentist. He was a trusted healthcare provider known for his attention to detail, gentle approach to patient care, and unwavering commitment to improving oral health. Throughout his career, he built lasting relationships with generations of families who relied on his expertise and compassionate care.
Dr. Nagy’s journey reflected determination and perseverance. Originally from Hungary, he moved to the United States in 1991 to pursue higher education and new opportunities. During his early years in America, he learned English while working as a nanny, later recalling that children’s television programs such as Sesame Street helped him develop the language skills that would support his future success.
His story became one of dedication and hard work, culminating in a distinguished career in dentistry and orthodontics.
Committed to lifelong learning, Dr. Nagy earned a Bachelor of Science in Entomology from The Ohio State University before completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree at The Ohio State University College of Dentistry.
He later expanded his education by earning a Master of Science in Specialized Orthodontics from the International Medical College in Münster, Germany, allowing him to provide advanced orthodontic treatment alongside comprehensive dental care.
His pursuit of continuing education remained a defining characteristic throughout his professional life as he consistently sought to incorporate the latest techniques and technologies into patient care.
In 2006, Dr. Nagy and his wife, Dr. Michelle Nagy, founded Oakwood Dental, creating a family-centered practice dedicated to providing comprehensive dental services in Bucyrus.
Over the years, the practice earned a reputation for combining advanced clinical care with a welcoming environment where patients of all ages felt comfortable. Together, the Nagys helped establish Oakwood Dental as a trusted healthcare provider serving families across Crawford County and surrounding communities.
Beyond caring for patients, Dr. Nagy remained actively involved in organized dentistry throughout his career.
He maintained memberships in several professional organizations, including:

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Michelle Nagy, their children, Adrianna and Dominik, and the many family members, friends, colleagues, and patients whose lives he touched over the course of his career.
Following the announcement of his passing, Oakwood Dental shared a message expressing profound sadness and asking patients for understanding as the family and staff navigate this difficult time.
