LAS VEGAS, Nev. — A fatal head-on collision on Interstate 15 north of Las Vegas left one person dead and four others hospitalized Sunday evening, prompting a major emergency response and significant traffic disruptions as investigators worked to determine what caused the crash.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, troopers were dispatched at approximately 6:43 p.m. to a reported two-vehicle crash on the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 near mile marker 94, close to the Logandale area. Preliminary information indicates the collision involved a head-on impact between two vehicles.

Emergency personnel arrived to find extensive damage at the scene. Authorities confirmed that one man died at the scene as a result of the crash. Four additional individuals sustained injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment. Two of the injured were taken by ground ambulance, while two others were airlifted by medical helicopter because of the severity of their injuries. Officials have not released updates on their conditions.

The crash forced the closure of portions of the northbound interstate as emergency crews assisted victims, documented the scene, and cleared the wreckage. Traffic was diverted around the incident, leading to lengthy delays for motorists traveling between Las Vegas and northeastern Clark County. Drivers were urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes while first responders remained on scene.

Investigators from the Nevada Highway Patrol are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision. At this stage, officials have not disclosed what caused one of the vehicles to enter the opposing lane, nor have they announced whether speed, impairment, distraction, mechanical failure, or other factors contributed to the crash. The identities of those involved have not yet been released pending notification of family members.

Fatal head-on crashes remain among the most serious types of roadway collisions due to the combined force of impact, often resulting in catastrophic injuries. Investigators will review physical evidence, vehicle damage, witness statements, and any available electronic data as they work to determine the sequence of events leading up to Sunday’s collision.

The Nevada Highway Patrol has asked anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have relevant information to cooperate with investigators as the inquiry continues. Additional information, including the identity of the deceased and further details regarding the injured victims, is expected to be released once the investigation progresses.
