DESOTO PARISH, La. — Family members, friends, and loved ones are mourning the tragic deaths of Carlos Helm, 49, of Mansfield, Louisiana, and Alonzo Thompkins, 39, of Arlington, Texas, following a devastating head-on collision early Thursday morning on Louisiana Highway 175 in DeSoto Parish. According to state police, troopers were dispatched at approximately 5:20 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 175 near Scott Road. When emergency responders arrived, they discovered both drivers had sustained catastrophic injuries in the collision. Despite emergency response efforts, both men were pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation determined that Carlos Helm was traveling northbound on Highway 175 while Alonzo Thompkins was traveling southbound. For reasons that have not yet been determined, investigators said Helm’s vehicle crossed the centerline and collided head-on with Thompkins’ vehicle.
