LIVINGSTON, N.J. — Family, friends, and members of the Livingston and Parsippany communities are mourning the passing of Susan R. “Sue” O’Brien, who died peacefully on June 2, 2026, at the age of 67. Her passing marks the loss of a devoted mother, cherished family member, loyal friend, and compassionate community member whose warmth and generosity touched countless lives throughout northern New Jersey.
Born on January 9, 1959, in Orange, New Jersey, Susan spent much of her life in Livingston and Parsippany, where she became known for her kind heart, infectious sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to the people she loved. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Kevin O’Brien, with whom she shared many years of marriage before his passing in 2016.
Above all else, Susan treasured her family. She was a loving and dedicated mother to her daughter, Ashley O’Brien, and remained deeply connected to her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Those closest to her remember her as someone who always made others feel welcomed, valued, and loved, whether through her laughter, thoughtful conversations, or simple acts of kindness.
Susan also dedicated many years of service to Chase Bank in Short Hills, where she worked as a teller. Colleagues remember her professionalism, friendly personality, and genuine care for customers and coworkers alike. Her commitment to helping others extended beyond her career and into every aspect of her daily life.
Outside of work, Susan had a deep affection for animals, particularly dogs. Her beloved companions—Clyde, Angus, and Jameson—were an important part of her life and brought her immeasurable joy. Friends often admired the love and care she devoted to animal welfare, a reflection of the compassion that defined her character.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate Susan’s life during visitation held on Sunday, June 7, at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston, where loved ones came together to honor her memory and offer support to one another during a difficult time.
Although Susan O’Brien’s passing leaves an immeasurable void, her legacy lives on through the family she cherished, the friendships she nurtured, and the countless lives she enriched through her compassion and generosity. She will be remembered with love, gratitude, and enduring affection by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
