GRAYSON, Ky. — A large-scale search remains underway for Marly Kinney, a 19-year-old Ashland woman who disappeared at Grayson Lake on Wednesday afternoon. Multiple local and state agencies have spent days searching the lake and surrounding shoreline as family members continue to hope for her safe return. Search operations entered their third day on Friday, though weather conditions temporarily interrupted efforts.
According to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, Kinney was last seen at Grayson Lake on Wednesday, June 24. Authorities have not determined exactly where or under what circumstances she disappeared, and investigators say many questions remain unanswered as they continue piecing together a timeline of her final known movements.
Officials said search teams have concentrated much of their effort on the water, utilizing boats, sonar equipment, drones, K-9 teams, and aerial support from the Kentucky State Police. Volunteers have also joined the search, walking sections of the shoreline in hopes of locating any evidence that could assist investigators. Weather-related challenges, including rain and approaching storms, have periodically forced crews to pause operations, but authorities emphasized that the search has not been called off.
Kinney’s family released a public statement expressing heartfelt gratitude to the law enforcement officers, first responders, search-and-rescue teams, and community volunteers who have dedicated countless hours to the effort. They said they remain hopeful that Marly will be found and thanked everyone who has offered support during the difficult ordeal.
Investigators have not announced whether the case is being treated as an accident, a possible drowning, or a criminal investigation. Authorities continue to examine all available information while working to establish exactly what occurred before Kinney disappeared. At this stage, officials have urged the public to avoid speculation as the investigation remains active.
Marly Kinney is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing approximately 125 pounds, with black hair. She was last seen wearing a pink, orange, and white bikini. Authorities are asking anyone who may have information regarding her whereabouts or who was in the Grayson Lake area on Wednesday afternoon to contact emergency services immediately.
