JUAB COUNTY, Utah — Firefighters are responding to the rapidly developing Maple Peak Fire, a lightning-caused wildfire burning on Maple Mountain near Eureka in central Utah, as dangerous fire weather continues to fuel multiple wildfires across the region.
The Maple Peak Fire was reported as a holdover lightning fire and is one of several new wildfires igniting in and around Juab County amid critical fire conditions. Fire officials said crews are working to gain access to the blaze in steep terrain while coordinating suppression efforts with responding agencies.
Authorities have also reported additional fires near Tintic Junction and in the Cherry Creek area, stretching firefighting resources as strong winds and dry vegetation contribute to extreme fire behavior. The nearby Highway 36 Fire prompted the closure of State Route 36 west of Eureka, disrupting travel through the area.
Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for some communities affected by the wildfire activity, with emergency officials directing displaced residents to temporary shelter locations while crews work to contain the fires. Residents are urged to monitor official emergency alerts and follow evacuation instructions as conditions can change rapidly.
As of Friday, fire officials had not released updated acreage or containment figures for the Maple Peak Fire. Crews remain focused on establishing access, protecting nearby communities, and limiting further spread under challenging weather conditions.
Officials continue to advise motorists to avoid affected roadways, comply with all closure notices, and remain alert for changing wildfire conditions as suppression efforts continue throughout central Utah.
