MOUNTAINAIR, N.M. — Family, friends, and the Mountainair community are mourning the passing of Lynda Christine Engle Goar, who died peacefully on June 25, 2026, at the age of 79. A lifelong resident of Mountainair, Lynda was remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, steadfast faith, and years of dedicated service to her community.
Born on March 1, 1947, in Mountainair, New Mexico, Lynda was the daughter of William and Clara Engle. She was raised in the close-knit community she would call home throughout her life, attending Mountainair schools from elementary through high school. Among the accomplishments she held especially dear was her invitation to join P.E.O. in 1965, an organization dedicated to supporting educational opportunities for women. The recognition reflected the compassion, generosity, and servant-hearted spirit that became hallmarks of her life.
On September 2, 1966, Lynda married Glenn Winiford Goar, beginning a partnership built on love, faith, and family. Together they welcomed two sons, Dale and Dewayne, and devoted themselves to creating a home where kindness, encouragement, and lasting traditions flourished. Those closest to her recall that family was always at the center of her life, and she found her greatest joy in supporting the people she loved through every stage of life.
Professionally, Lynda spent many years as a payroll clerk for Mountainair Electric Co-op, where she earned the respect of coworkers through her dependability, professionalism, and friendly nature. Her work ethic and willingness to help others made her a valued member of the organization and someone colleagues were always pleased to work alongside.
Outside of work, Lynda treasured the simple moments that brought family together. Summers spent at the family lake created memories that would be cherished for generations, while evenings gathered around card games and puzzles reflected her love of laughter, conversation, and togetherness. Her life was also deeply rooted in her Christian faith as a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Mountainair, where she remained an active and faithful presence for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn Winiford Goar; her son, Dale Goar; her granddaughter, Ashley Rene Goar; her sister, Jo Ellen Mountjoy; and her brother, Robert “Bob” Lee Engle. She is survived by her son, Dewayne Goar; her grandson, Ty Goar; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will continue to cherish her memory.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 29, at First Baptist Church of Mountainair, with interment to follow at Mountainair Cemetery. In keeping with Lynda’s generous spirit, her family has requested that memorial donations be made to Make-A-Wish New Mexico or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in lieu of flowers.
Lynda Christine Engle Goar will be remembered as a woman whose life was defined not by grand gestures, but by quiet acts of love, unwavering faith, and selfless devotion to her family and community. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
