SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The San Antonio community is mourning the loss of Jeremiah Delgado, a 16-year-old who died after being critically wounded in a shooting that erupted during an attempted robbery on the city’s Southwest Side. His death marks the second fatality connected to the violent confrontation, which remains under investigation by the San Antonio Police Department.
According to investigators, the shooting occurred at approximately 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, near the intersection of Old Pearsall Road and Excellence Drive. Police said the incident began when a 14-year-old boy, later identified as Michael Alvarez Jr., was allegedly confronted by Jeremiah Delgado and two other individuals during what authorities described as an attempted robbery. The encounter escalated into an exchange of gunfire that left both teenagers with life-threatening injuries.
Emergency responders arrived to find both victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Michael Alvarez Jr. died at the scene, while Delgado was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Delgado later succumbed to his injuries.
Police said a 19-year-old and a 29-year-old, who investigators believe were involved in the attempted robbery, were detained for questioning following the shooting. As of the latest information released by authorities, it remains unclear whether formal criminal charges have been filed. Detectives continue to examine witness statements, physical evidence, and the sequence of events that led to the deadly exchange of gunfire.
The deaths of both teenagers have left two families grieving and have underscored the devastating consequences of youth violence. Friends, relatives, and community members have expressed sorrow over the loss of two young lives, while hoping the ongoing investigation will provide a clearer understanding of what occurred that evening.
