A shooting near Spark Social SF in San Francisco’s Mission Bay neighborhood left two people injured Tuesday night, prompting a major police response and an ongoing investigation into the violence that unfolded near one of the city’s official FIFA World Cup watch party venues. Authorities say the incident occurred after a verbal altercation escalated into gunfire, sending emergency responders rushing to the scene.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, officers responded at approximately 9:11 p.m. to the 600 block of Mission Bay Boulevard North following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Police immediately rendered aid until paramedics transported both individuals to a local hospital. Authorities said both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Preliminary findings indicate that the shooting began after a verbal confrontation between individuals in the area. Investigators believe a male suspect produced a firearm during the dispute, fired multiple shots, and fled before officers arrived. As of Wednesday, no arrests had been announced, and detectives continue working to identify and locate the suspect.
The incident occurred on the same block as Spark Social SF, a popular outdoor food truck park that had been hosting official FIFA World Cup watch parties throughout the tournament. Hundreds of fans had gathered earlier in the day to watch World Cup matches and enjoy scheduled entertainment, including live DJ performances. Authorities have not indicated that the shooting was directly related to the World Cup festivities, and the investigation remains focused on the altercation that preceded the gunfire.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Spark Social SF announced it would cancel all remaining public World Cup watch parties for the rest of the tournament, citing the safety of guests, staff, vendors, and the surrounding community. The venue stated that it will remain open for regular dining, family activities, reservations, and previously scheduled events unrelated to the World Cup broadcasts.
Investigators continue to gather evidence, review surveillance footage, and interview witnesses as they work to determine the full sequence of events. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the San Francisco Police Department.
The investigation remains active, and authorities are expected to release additional information as it becomes available.
