His tragic death has sparked widespread grief, calls for accountability, and an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
According to authorities and family members, the incident occurred on June 14, 2026, after Senatobia police responded to a reported shoplifting call at a Walmart. Investigators said an officer fired into a moving vehicle after claiming it was driving toward him. Kohen, who was inside the vehicle, was struck by the gunfire and later died from his injuries. The child’s aunt, who was driving the vehicle, was also injured in the shooting. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is leading the inquiry into the incident.

His grandmothers and other relatives have shared emotional tributes, remembering him as a beloved child whose life, though tragically brief, was filled with love and happiness. One family member said Kohen was their “only and first grandchild,” expressing the profound pain his loss has left behind.
As news of the shooting spread, vigils, memorials, and community gatherings were organized in Kohen’s honor. Flowers, stuffed animals, candles, and handwritten messages were placed outside the Senatobia Walmart where the shooting occurred, while supporters called for transparency and justice as the investigation continues. Community leaders, clergy members, and residents have joined the family in mourning the devastating loss of a child whose life ended far too soon.
Funeral services for Kohen were entrusted to Community Funeral Directors. Visitation was held on June 26 at the Senatobia Church of Christ, followed by a funeral service on June 27 at Hosanna Family Worship Center in Pope, Mississippi, where loved ones gathered to celebrate his life and offer support to his grieving family.
The officer involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave while the investigation proceeds. State investigators continue to examine witness statements, physical evidence, and body-camera footage to determine whether the use of deadly force was justified. No final determination has been announced, and the investigation remains active.
The death of Kohen Wiley has resonated far beyond Mississippi, prompting renewed conversations about police use of force, community trust, and the devastating impact of violence involving children.
